About the Role
Opportunity in an Independent Law firm.
The firm is seeking a Tax & Trusts Manager responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of trusts, assisting in estate administration, and ensuring adherence to applicable regulatory standards. The position involves close collaboration with the Team Principal and colleagues within the Tax & Trusts division.
Key Responsibilities
The main duties of this role include:
- Administering a portfolio of trusts on behalf of the firm's trustee clients.
- Ensuring timely completion of trust income tax, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax returns during the compliance period.
- Preparing annual trust accounts using specialized accounting software.
- Managing routine trust administration tasks, including communication with trustees and professional advisors.
- Preparing and submitting returns for FATCA and CRS, when necessary.
- Filing Trust Registration Service (TRS) submissions and handling complex estate filings.
- Drafting trustee minutes and resolutions.
- Conducting quarterly assessments of trust fund investments and providing reports to trustees.
- Promoting trust and tax services both within the firm and to external clients.
- Engaging with existing clients to identify and expand business opportunities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Solid experience in trust administration, including preparation of trust and personal tax returns, as well as inheritance tax documentation.
- Proficiency in the preparation of trust accounts.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience liaising with HMRC and third parties, such as banks, land agents, and stockbrokers.
- A thorough understanding of inheritance tax (IHT) and trust-related tax planning.
- At least two years of experience in personal tax and trust administration.
- Familiarity with accounting practices.
- Relevant professional qualifications, such as STEP, ATT, or ACCA, are advantageous.
