About the Role
Opportunity in a Boutique firm.
This firm seeks an experienced Tax Disputes Manager to join its team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in meetings with both clients and HMRC.
- Collect and evaluate financial data for compliance and reporting purposes.
- Provide expert guidance on HMRC’s assessing powers, time limitations, and penalties legislation.
- Calculate tax liabilities, interest, and penalties for various taxes, including income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and corporation tax, along with National Insurance Contributions (NICs).
- Oversee the day-to-day management of investigations or disclosures for a dedicated portfolio of clients.
- Facilitate voluntary disclosures to HMRC on behalf of clients.
- Assist in negotiating settlement figures with HMRC, supported by senior staff.
- Draft correspondence, disclosures, and reports addressed to HMRC.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend business development meetings with external intermediaries.
- Build and maintain an internal network within the broader tax and advisory practices of the firm.
- Act as a representative of the team and the firm, participating in marketing events, staying informed about the firm's full range of services, and proposing innovative solutions.
- Assist with the planning and execution of the marketing strategy for the Tax Risk & Dispute Resolution (TR&DR) business.
- Obtain Work in Progress (WIP) reports and manage the monthly billing process for clients.
- Oversee the preparation of fee quotes and budgets for smaller client engagements.
- Handle the onboarding of new clients, including Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and engagement administration.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Former HMRC inspector with a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience; or
- Partially or fully qualified CTA or ACA with at least three years of experience in tax dispute resolution within a corporate or private client tax team.
